Another fantastic performance on a historic night at the Etihad saw City qualify for the Champions League knockout stage on their third attempt. There were fireworks before the game at the ground with it being Bonfire Night, and plenty on the pitch during it!
There were still some frailties at the back, but the attacking football on display was a privilege to witness in person, with Aguero and Negredo both magnificent and supported by the rejuvenated magicians Silva and Nasri.
The only worry leaving the match was knocks for Silva and Fernandinho, who have both been in outstanding form. They will be assessed later to determine whether they will miss this Sunday’s game against Sunderland.
Pellegrini’s first major objective, something Mancini failed to do (albeit in tougher groups), is already complete – Champions League progress. 3 wins from 4 games also means a major financial boost with each group stage victory triggering a €1million bonus – and there are still two games to go before the next round!
