And now Yaya has stoked the fire with some remarks on beIN SPORT.
When asked about the possibility of Messi leaving the Camp Nou, his old pal Yaya said in slight jest: “If it’s to come to City, I hope Messi can leave the Nou Camp.”
Zabaleta has also spoken of Messi’s interest in goings-on at City, revealing that his pal regularly asks about life at City when they are together on international duty.
There has been plenty of talk in Spain recently about Messi’s rocky relationship with Barcelona chiefs and even his father’s attempt to settle things down by saying his son is happy won’t stop the chatter.
In November, we provided some details on talks that have taken place about a possible deal for Messi to join City in future. And earlier this month a guest writer offered some insight to what is going on between City and Barcelona.
The safe money is on Messi staying at Barcelona for the rest of his career, but if he does opt for a new challenge all signs point to City being in pole position.
Some good news ahead of the Liverpool game after Nastasic took part in full training today.
City have become very careful about rushing players back from injury following Kompany’s setbacks after hurrying back, but Nastasic looks to have a real chance of being available for the Liverpool game.
One potential worry is David Silva who was photographed in trainers today (along with Aguero and Zaba), a sign that he did not take part in full outdoor training.
We only have club photos and second hand reports to go off here, but it appears Silva and Demichelis didn’t train with the main group of 16.
There could be many reasons for their absences, such as a minor knocks, and there are still training sessions to come before Liverpool, so nothing to panic about yet.
In another interview, this time to Sky Sports, Yaya made some bold claims while praising Pellegrini. Some notable quotes:
“I am a lucky man to be in the right place because the club have brought in fantastic players. Everything is in a good place to be honest, and I’m sure in a couple of years Man City will become the greatest club in the world.”
“[Barcelona] are quite afraid about us, the way they see us play in the PL at home especially, they’re quite scared. We play fantastic football and we score goals, it’s total attack. But it’s going to be a tough game and for us we know if we’re to win we need to be at the top of our game.”
“Pellegrini is a massive manager and he trusts in any player. Samir Nasri is in top form now, David Silva is, that’s where you can say Pellegrini is a fantastic manager, he gives confidence, it’s massive for everyone, he respects everyone, even the guys from the second team.”
Sky Italia has previously reported that he is on Napoli’s shortlist of potential midfield recruits, and Naples-based Il Mattino has backed that up.
According to the paper, Garcia isn’t Napoli’s first choice, but should the club fail to land main target Maxime Gonalons (Lyon), they could make a bid for Garcia.
Il Mattino claims that Napoli could be willing to pay around £10m for Garcia if they decide to move for the Spaniard.
City’s only signing of the January ’13 transfer window is returning home. Home to City, that is.
19-year-old winger Godsway Donyoh, signed from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, has been on loan at Swedish side Djurgården, but has managed only 9 starts for the first team.
Djurgården sporting director Bosse Andersson has confirmed that City are recalling him because they want him to play more in order to develop as a player. City will seek a new club for the youngster.
Mohammed Abu is another of City’s Ghanaians looking for a new club, with City trying to find him a new loan destination after he returned from a difficult spell at AGF Aarhus in Denmark.
Have a great Christmas everyone! May you celebrate it with as much joy and enthusiasm as Aleks…
